Hello, this is Yonsei JW Dental Clinic in Seoul, Korea.
Invisalign aligners used for orthodontic treatment are all made of a special plastic material called SmartTrack®, a clear and aesthetic material. Compared to traditional braces that use wires and brackets, Invisalign aligners are aesthetically pleasing, removable for better oral hygiene, and comfortable without causing irritation or injury.
However, when researching Invisalign, you might find that each clinic uses different terms such as Comprehensive, Full, Complete, Partial, Express, or Lite to describe the devices. This can lead to confusion. These varying terms likely result from attempts to make the U.S. product names easier to understand.
Here, we’ve organized the different types of Invisalign aligners according to the official names designated by the Invisalign company:
1. Invisalign Comprehensive
- Purpose: For addressing complex dental alignment issues (e.g., severe crowding, protrusion, malocclusion). Offers the advantage of free additional aligners within a specified period if teeth shift again.
- Options:
- Option 1: Free aligners for reasonable cases within 5 years from the initial shipment date.
- Option 2: Free additional sets within 3 years; additional charges apply for more than 3 sets.
- Treatment Duration: Typically 12–24 months.
- Treatment Expiry: Option 1 (5 years), Option 2 (3 years).
- Suitable For: Teenagers or adults needing comprehensive orthodontic treatment.
2. Invisalign Lite
- Purpose: For mild to moderate dental issues, where Invisalign Express is insufficient, but Comprehensive treatment is unnecessary.
- Features: Covers a broad range of cases, up to 14 aligners.
- Treatment Duration: About 4–6 months.
- Treatment Expiry: Free additional aligners within 1 year; treatment validity lasts 2 years.
- Suitable For: Teenagers or adults requiring minor corrections.
3. Invisalign Express
- Purpose: For very minor alignment issues or quick corrections, such as gaps between front teeth or minor relapse due to retainer loss.
- Features: Limited to 7 aligners.
- Treatment Duration: About 2–3 months.
- Treatment Expiry: Free additional aligners within 6 months; no further aligners allowed after 1 year.
- Suitable For: Teenagers or adults needing minimal adjustments.
4. Invisalign First
- Purpose: For early intervention in children aged 6–10, addressing dental and jaw issues during growth. It facilitates easier Phase 2 orthodontic treatment later and promotes gum health.
- Features: Designed to manage dental and jaw development issues.
- Treatment Expiry: Valid for 18 months from the initial shipment date.
- Suitable For: Growing children requiring early orthodontic care.
